A yacht listing email that earns the next conversation
A listing email is not the specification sheet. Its job is to help a buyer recognize a relevant vessel and take one clear next step. Lead with the boat, choose a few substantiated details, and make the invitation easy to answer.
Gather the facts before writing
Keep the approved listing beside you: make, model, year, length with units, asking price, key features, and condition notes. Confirm availability and location before offering a viewing. A marina, dealer lot, or dry-stack location is useful context; an exact slip address usually belongs in the appointment conversation, not a broad email.
Choose three features that matter to this audience. A cruising couple may care about the cabin arrangement and sail handling. A sportfishing buyer may want cockpit layout and equipment details. Do not turn an equipment list into a performance guarantee. Unknown engine hours, maintenance history, or survey findings should remain unknown until verified.
Use a short, repeatable structure
- Subject: Name the vessel and one useful detail. “New listing: 2019 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440” is clearer than “Your dream yacht awaits.”
- Opening: Identify the vessel, length, location, and asking price. Do not bury the basics beneath a lifestyle paragraph.
- Middle: Connect a few verified features to the buyer’s interests. Avoid “turnkey,” “pristine,” or “offshore-ready” without evidence.
- Close: Ask for one action: reply for details or arrange a viewing. If you include a listing link, check its specs, photos, and price.
- Signature: Use the broker’s name and brokerage so the reader knows who represents the vessel.
A fictional example, not a vessel for sale

Sample New Listing Announcement Email
Subject: New listing: 2019 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 in Berkeley
A 2019 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 is now available through Doe Yacht Sales, asking $285,000.
This 44 ft sailing yacht is berthed at Berkeley Marina in the San Francisco Bay Region. The listing includes a three-cabin layout, in-mast furling, and a bow thruster. If those features are on your shortlist, this may be a vessel worth discussing.
Reply for the full specifications or to arrange a viewing by appointment.

Review the claims, not just the spelling
The California Yacht Brokers Association’s Code of Ethics provides a useful reference: ascertain pertinent facts, avoid exaggeration, identify the brokerage, and advertise at the agreed asking price. It also addresses permission to reuse another broker’s listing materials. This is an association ethics code, not a complete legal checklist.
- Check the listing agreement and owner-approved asking price before advertising.
- Compare every specification and condition claim against reliable vessel records.
- Confirm you have the required rights to any specifications, photographs, or survey material you reuse.
- Check the recipient list and applicable email-marketing requirements separately. A good draft does not establish permission to send.
A disclaimer does not replace factual review. Nor does a marketing email replace a marine survey. Keep uncertainty explicit, and avoid implying that BoatPost or the broker has independently inspected anything they have not.
